Cold Brewed Coffee Concentrate

Based on my recent experiment (view the video here), cold brewed coffee tastes better than hot brewed coffee when used as the base for iced coffee. So I am posting the cold brewed coffee concentrate recipe here.

Ingredients:

  • 3 oz coarse ground coffee
  • 12 fl oz filtered water

Directions:

1. Place the coffee grounds in a container.*
2. Pour water over the grounds.
3. Stir gently to saturate and evenly wet the grounds.
4. Cover and let sit for at least 8 hours or overnight.
5. Filter the grounds using a sieve covered with cheese cloth.*
6. Pour into a storage container.
7. Store in the refrigerator for up to a week.
8. Yields 1 cup of coffee concentrate.

*If you have a French press use that then skip step 5 by filtering the grounds with the plunger instead.

To adjust the amount of ingredients, use 1 part coffee grounds and 4 parts water.

To make cold brewed iced coffee: Use 1 part coffee concentrate with 3 parts water or 2 parts water and 1 part milk (example: use 2 oz concentrate with 6 oz of water or 4 oz water and 2 oz milk). Pour over ice. Add sugar to taste.

You can also use this for other cold recipes that call for coffee concentrate or espresso.

ENJOY!
